Classical design concept The classical design concept seeks to marry the 1980s 'Nucleus' design hospital with the recently developed adjacent business park and provides a strong identity and definition for the facility.
Modelling A key aspect of the Client's brief was to stress the importance of attracting external interest in investment and research opportunities whilst promoting staff retention and providing a stimulus to the students.

3D modelling & mood boards were created to show how this could be achieved by 'sweating the NHS asset' to shape an affordable solution, as demonstrated by the successful Business Case submission.

The entrance again borrows from the classical tradition; visitors arrive half way between floors via a footbridge leading to the entrance atrium with the equivalent of the grand staircase - wayfinding within the building is immediately easy to understand.
A key property of an intelligible layout is
'what you can see is a reliable guide to where you want to go'
View from inside Uncluttered and minimal finishes are used to keep costs and maintenance low and 3D renderings were developed to ensure the Client was satisfied with the proposals.

The accommodation, arranged to segregate quiet and busy areas, provides Library & IT resources, Clinical Skill Labs, Internet Café, a 125 seat Lecture Theatre and flexibly arranged Seminar Rooms.

The scheme is planned for future expansion, including a feasibility study to provide a patient resource centre.

Original scope of work delivered on time and on budget.
